On August 9, 2016, the International Symposium on Water Resources and Hydroinformatics co-hosted by the State Key Laboratory of Three-River-Source Ecology and Plateau Agriculture and Livestock in Qinghai University, which is co-founded by the relevant ministry and Qinghai Province, and the School of Hydraulic and Electric Engineering, was held in Qinghai University. More than 40 people from 8 universities attended the meeting, including Prof. Xie Zhenglun, Director of Disaster Prevention Research Center of National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan, Prof. Zhen Jiacheng, Prof. Duan Qingyun, expert of National "Thousand Talent Plan" of Beijing Normal University, Researcher Zhen Changxin of Institute of Electrics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Prof. Zhang Haojun of Kochi University, Prof. Bellie Sivakumar of the University of New South Wales, Australia, Prof. Shi Haiyun of the University of Hong Kong, as well as people from Tsinghua University and Qinghai University. Prof. Wei Jiahua, Chief Scientist of State Key Laboratory of Hydrology-Water Resources and Hydraulic Engineering, Cheung Kong Scholar, and Executive Vice Dean of School of Hydraulic and Electric Engineering, presided over the symposium.
Mr. Wang Guangqian, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Principal of Qinghai University, attended and presided over the opening ceremony and cooperation signing ceremony. On behalf of Qinghai University, Principal Wang Guangqian extended a warm welcome to all the experts and scholars attending the symposium and expressed his hope that the symposium would build a platform for communication among universities, strengthen academic exchanges and communication. Thus, we can strive to improve the influence of Qinghai University at home and abroad, and build Qinghai University into a modern university with first-class disciplines.
Professor Xie Zhenglun, Director of Disaster Prevention Research Center of National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan, introduced the basic situation of National Cheng Kung University and Disaster Prevention Research Center in Taiwan. Professor Xie Hongwei, Dean of School of Hydraulic and Electric Engineering of Qinghai University, introduced the basic situation of the State Key Laboratory and School of Hydraulic and Electric Engineering. The School of Hydraulic and Electric Engineering of Qinghai University and the Disaster Prevention Research Center of National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan signed a cooperation agreement.
The symposium was organized around seminars on water resources, water disasters, and cutting-edge developments in hydroinformatics. Prof. Xie Zhenglun, Director of Disaster Prevention Research Center of National Cheng Kung University, introduced the impact of natural disasters in Taiwan and the various disaster prevention and mitigation work done by the Center, and introduced in detail the cutting-edge scientific and technological progress in natural disaster prevention in Taiwan. Professor Zhang Hao from Kochi University introduced the basic information of Kochi University and gave an academic report on the three-dimensional Eulerian model of sediment transportation. Prof. Duan Qingyun, world-famed hydrographer and expert of National "Thousand Talent Plan" of Beijing Normal University, presented the latest research of integrated hydrological forecasting methods; Prof. Bellie Sivakumar introduced the challenges and opportunities in water resources planning and management in developing countries. Professors from Qinghai University and Tsinghua University presented their research in Sky River project, Internet of Water, Global River Network, and medium and long-term runoff forecasting.
