In the afternoon of June 26, Wang Jianjun, Deputy Secretary of Qinghai Provincial Party Committee of CPC and Governor of the People's Government of Qinghai Province, met with Gregg L. Semenza and Cynthia M. Bell, members of the National Academy of Sciences, and other foreign experts in related fields, who came to Qinghai University to attend the "Summit Forum on Chronic Hypoxia and Genetic Adaptation and the 2017 Annual Meeting of the International Exchange Committee of the Genetics Society of China".
Governor Wang Jianjun firstly expressed his warm welcome to Gregg L. Semenza and Cynthia M. Bell and their delegation to Qinghai. On behalf of the People's Government of Qinghai Province and Secretary Wang Guosheng, he expressed his greetings to all the physicians of the province on the occasion of the seventh Chinese Doctors' Day, pointing out that the Chinese government and the local government have always put the health of the people in an important position. It is hoped that the majority of medical workers, quoting doctor's three treasures of "language, medicine, scalpel" proposed by the father of Western medicine Hippocrates, could relieve the sick and suffering for more people, and protect the physical and mental health of the people. Gregg L. Semenza expressed his gratitude to Governor Wang Jianjun for hishospitality and said he would further strengthen the exchange with Qinghai in the field of plateau medicine and make contributions to human plateau health care and hypoxia protection.
In the morning of the 26th, the "Summit Forum on Chronic Hypoxia and Genetic Adaptation and the 2017 Annual Meeting of the International Exchange Committee of the Genetics Society of China" hosted by Qinghai University was held in Xining. Jing Degang, Deputy Director of Qinghai Education Department, and Wang Xiaoqin, Deputy Director of Health Commission of Qinghai Province, were invited to attend the meeting. Li Lirong, Vice Principal of Qinghai University, Li Zhanquan, President of Qinghai University Affiliated Hospital, and Wu Shizheng, President of Qinghai Provincial People's Hospital, delivered speeches at the meeting. The meeting brought together more than 100 top scientists, related experts, and scholars in the field of highland medicine research, including academicians Gregg L. Semenza and Cynthia M. Bell, from home and abroad. The meeting was based on solving the pathogenesis of altitude sickness, with the theme of "Chronic Hypoxia and Genetic Adaptation", which built a platform for academic exchange for scientific workers and research institutions engaged in plateau medicine research, and promoted the development of plateau medicine research in Qinghai province. The participating experts expressed their intention to reveal more about the genetic mechanism of hypoxia adaptation and injury and to contribute to the health and welfare of plateau people, as well as the economic and social development of Qinghai Province.
