YICMG 2021.7 YICMG - The 5th Youth Innovation Competition on Lancang-Mekong Region’s Governance and Development (YICMG) kicked off on the “cloud.” On the morning of July 7, the final of the fifth Youth Innovation Competition on Lancang-Mekong Region’s Governance and Development was officially launched on the platform of "Lancang-Mekong Youth Online." The opening ceremony was presided over by Su Changhe, Dean of the School of International Relations and Public Affairs of Fudan University, and attended online by Professor Ren Yanming, Vice President of Qinghai University, Xu Jin, Deputy Secretary of the Youth League Committee, Han Lei, Director of the Youth League Committee, Han Xiaoyun, Director of the Foreign Affairs Office, and Xu Chunjing from the Basic Courses Department, 18 expert judges from 9 universities in six countries including China, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar, and Thailand, and 51 young contestants from the said countries.
At the opening ceremony, Yin Dongmei, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Fudan University, delivered a welcome speech on behalf of the organizer. Zhao Honghao, Deputy Director of the Qinghai Provincial Government’s Information Office and Director of the External Publicity Office of the Publicity Department of the Provincial Party Committee, delivered a speech on behalf of the Lancang-Mekong source land. Niwat Keawpradub, President of Prince of Songkla University in Thailand, and Seinn Lei Aye, representative of Yangon University in Myanmar, delivered speeches on behalf of the International Organizing Committee. Near the end of the ceremony, all participants online waved their hands with a Peace Sign to the camera before a group photo was taken, to show their support to the competition. It announced the official launch of the final of the 5th YICMG, and marked a step further of YICMG in promoting cultural exchanges among young people of the six countries in the new situation.
In the afternoon, the fourth meeting of the Lancang-Mekong Youth Exchange and Cooperation Center Council and the meeting of the Organizing Committee of the fifth YICMG was successfully held online. The meeting was hosted by Chen Zhimin, Vice President of Fudan University. Professor Ren Yanming, Vice President of Qinghai University, made a speech on behalf of the university as a member of the Lancang-Mekong Youth Exchange and Cooperation Center Council. He said that in the second five years of Lancang-Mekong youth exchanges and cooperation, we should strengthen the online construction of the Lancang-Mekong cooperation mechanism, promote the organization of Lancang-Mekong online competitions, develop the platform of "Lancang-Mekong Youth Online" with multi-party participation, and facilitate the Lancang-Mekong online education and academic cooperation as important links in deepening the Lancang-Mekong cooperation mechanism, and that we look forward to in-depth cooperation in the holding of online YICMG, higher education, scientific research and joint cultivation among countries in the Lancang-Mekong sub-region.
At the meeting, the organizer made introduction to the construction of the platform of "Lancang-Mekong Youth Online." Heads of the six members conducted discussions and exchanges on YICMG2022 related matters according to the construction of integrated education based on various universities’ online courses by the center and the proposals for the advancement of academic cooperation among universities in the Lancang-Mekong sub-region. The members discussed how to further propel the higher education and entrepreneurship and innovation centered education for youths of the six countries, and reached consensuses.
